Design and graphics for The Huntington News
|
Lifestyle single page design
The challenge of this page was making it visually appealing with the limited space due to the event calendar. I used Photoshop to create the cutout for the top story, and Illustrator to make the first two graphics in the calendar |
Sports single page design
It was pretty late at night when we realized no one was doing this page, so I stepped in at the last minute. The diving pictures were sort of strange and the story was very short so I really tried to use the photos to extend the story and fill the page. |

Sports single page design
With this page I focused on creating some whitespace with the photo cut out. The story was very long and at various points in the design process the page was extremely text heavy. Lifestyle single page design
There were very few options for a CVI on this page and the story was not very long, so I worked with what I was given to fill the space. I like how the pulled quote takes up the entire column because it breaks up the text. Lifestyle single page design
The story on this page was shorter than anticipated so I had to get creative using the photos given. It helped that the event calendar was also on this page, but I still had to figure out the right dimensions for each photo to make it all fit. |
City and lifestyle two page design
It's not often I work on two adjacent pages, but with this spread I focused on incorporating elements that would break up the text. The left hand side story was overwhelmingly long and the photo options were limited. I tried really hard to not make this spread not too text heavy. Sports center spread design
For my first center spread design for The Huntington News I was given a series of old sports photos to use and told to fill the space. It was fun to design in color, but annoying to have to use old photos. |
